Gerald Joseph Barczak “Gary”

Born to Eternal Life on September 3rd, 2019 at the age of 79 surrounded by his family at the Zilber Family Hospice facility. Residence Milwaukee. Loving, devoted father of Sara (Anthony Jernigan) and Margaux Barczak. Dear brother of Maxine (the late Daniel) Rapoport, Wayne (Janice) Barczak, James (Mary) Barczak and the late Dave (the late JoAnn) Barczak. Best friend of Judy Barczak, former spouse. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including his unofficially “adopted” daughter, Tara Ferris (Girmscheid). Preceded in death by his parents, Max Barczak (former Milwaukee County Sheriff and Treasurer) and Marie Veronica Wisniewski.

Gary J. Barczak was a life-long resident of Milwaukee County and a dedicated public servant. He served as Executive Director of the Wisconsin Builders Association and the Milwaukee County Democratic Party. As an elected official, Mr. Barczak was the Clerk of Circuit Court/Court Services Director for Milwaukee County and served for over a decade in the Wisconsin State Assembly representing the communities of West Allis and West Milwaukee. As a young man, Gary was honored to serve in Washington, D.C. as a Legislative Assistant to his mentor, U.S. Congressman Clement J. Zablocki.

Gary loved traveling, reading, cooking, baking, eating and spending time visiting with friends and family, including playing board games, especially Rummikub. A tremendous conversationalist and historian, gifted public speaker, quick-witted, acerbic and with a sense of humor that was uniquely his own. An accomplished home cook who spoiled and/or bribed his family and friends (and nearly everyone he met) with wonderful meals and baked goods, especially his pies with the tastiest of crusts.

Special thanks to Gary’s dedicated medical team, especially Dr. Scott D. Fenske.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist; 812 N. Jackson Street; Milwaukee 53202 on Monday September 23rd at 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers please offer memorial donations on behalf of Gary Barczak to the Eisenhower Center, which he supported for decades: Eisenhower Cerebral Palsy Foundation, 4425 W.
