Werner Jacob Froehling

Passed away peacefully December 18, 2018 at the age of 97.  Born in Mayen, Germany September 16, 1921 to Leopold and Frieda (Kempenich) Froehling.  He is survived by a cousin, Ms Edith Kahn.

Escaped the holocaust with his parents.  Forced to lease their beautiful home in Mayen.  Walked away as if going to a picnic.  Wearing layers of clothes. Slept three nights in the Black Forest. Got to Belgium and found shelter there, but as Hitler advanced, had to leave for America.  Rosel and Herman Kahn found sponsors for them in Milwaukee.

Werner enlisted in the US Army, saw action and was an interpreter in Germany, also saw action in the Philippines. He traveled the world in the service.  He is the retired owner of Werner’s Menswear.  He would tailor suits as the customer waited, always a free tie with the suits.  He loved his south side customers, said they all wore clean white socks and paid their bills… some of his best suits are buried in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery.
