Mary Elizabeth Mattingly

Mattingly, Mary Elizabeth slipped gently away, of natural causes, surrounded by her family, on March 6, 2014. She died the way she lived, with dignity and grace. Mary Liz was born on December 14, 1922 to George and Odilla Kohlman. She grew up 1 of 5 children in Rochester, NY. In 1948 she married Richard F. Mattingly M.D. and together they had seven children. Mary Liz had 2 passions, family and books. She was a voracious reader and fiercely devoted to her family. She loved spending time with her kids, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. And, although she loved her solitude, especially if it involved a good book, she was a friend to all, whose love and compassion for others knew no boundaries. She will be missed by all in the community whose lives she touched and especially by her close friend, Debbie. Her faith, though tested mightily over the years, remained strong and an important part of her life. In the end, she passed away holding on to the comfort of not one, but two rosaries. Mary Liz was a longtime member of the St. Roberts Parish and happily volunteered her time and energy as a "Holy Duster". The world was a kinder and better place because she was in it. She is survived by her brother, Bill (the late Delores) Kohlman and her sister, Rosemary (Floyd) Starr; her children Kerry (Patricia,) Kent (Judy), Keith, (Cheryl) Kelly, (Therese) and Kris (fiancee Bonnie); her grandchildren Paul (Joanne), Colleen (Gianni), Lisa (fiancé Weston), Ashley (Kristi), Anthony (Melissa), RJ, Cody (fiancee Kerrie), Daniel, Caitlin, Chloe, Krista (fiancé Stephen) and Jesse; her great-grandchildren Kaili, Piper, Beck, Alexis, Jackson, Abby and Luca. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her son, Kevin, her daughter, Kathleen, her daughters-in-law, Christine and Rita; her brother, Bobby and her sister, Kaye. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Roberts Parish, 2224 E. Capitol Dr. Shorewood 53211, with a mass celebrating her life at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Roberts Parish or Horizon Hospice.
