Charles Quentin Hart-Slater

(Charles) Quentin Hart-Slater died on Feb. 21, 2016 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Quentin was born on December 31, 1958 in Montreal, Canada to Malcolm and Marcia (nee Hart) Slater, both British citizens. After some years, the family returned to England where Quentin remained until his mid-twenties at which time he relocated to Toronto, Canada. There he met Cindy Thomason who he married in Toronto in Sept, 1994, moving to Chicago shortly after. While Quentin had completed an apprenticeship in engineering management with the British Ministry of Defense, he went on to try his hand at a variety of professions from auto mechanic to stock broker to owner / operator of an after-hours club before settling on Information Technology (IT) after moving to the USA. In Chicago, Quentin worked in IT at DePaul University and also completed a BS from DePaul in 2005. He and Cindy moved to Milwaukee in late 2000 where Quentin worked in IT for several years at UW-Milwaukee before moving to Marquette University. He completed a MS in Computing from Marquette in 2008. Quentin had an amazing zest for life with broad interests that ran from the Mayans to architecture and art, to music, especially early and world music, just to name a few. He was widely traveled and enjoyed seeing unique places, most recently a second trip to Iceland with friends and a trip to Cuba. He enjoyed automotives, once buying a Maserati off of eBay and racing motorcycles both when young and, again, while living in Chicago. He had a ready and infectious smile and was a good and loyal friend. He had an intelligence mind, was always learning, seeking new things to see and do. Exhibiting graciousness and kindness to everyone, he had an amazing understanding and compassion for those less fortunate than him. Quentin's successes in life were made more admirable by the many challenges he had had to overcome. Quentin was preceded in death by his father Malcolm Slater, mother Marcia Meyer, step-brother James Wears and by in-laws Roy and Bette Thomason. He is survived by his spouse, Cindy Thomason of Milwaukee, WI, sister Alison (Tim) Moran of St. Briavels, UK , half-brother Yossi (Efrat) Meyer of Modi'in, Israel, step-mother, Fiorella Slater of Slough, UK, uncle Adair (Pamela) Slater of Menlo Park, CA, step-sister Stephanie (Neil) Buck of Slough, UK, step-Sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wears of Derbyshire, UK, brother-in-law Richard (Nora) Thomason of Bourbonnais,IL along with a number of cousins, nephews, and a niece. Service & Reception InfoVisitation will be held on Mon., March 28 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Northshore Milwaukee Funeral Home, Milwaukee, WI with a short prayer service at 7:00pm. The funeral will be held at 3:00pm on Tue., March 29 at Church of the Gesu, Milwaukee, WI. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Chicago (NAMI Chicago) (http://www.namichicago.org/get-involved/give/memorials/) made be made in Quentin's name.
