Donald Ray Carlson

It is with great sorrow that we said good-bye to our dear friend, brother, uncle and mentor on

April 1st, 2022. Donald Ray Carlson was born on November 5th, 1948 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Maurine Pulis and Keith Frederick Carlson. While his childhood years were all spent in Iowa, he spent his adult life in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Don was a “Renaissance” man. Whatever challenge he set for himself, Don never failed to master it with strength and integrity. In every career choice and endeavor sought he was zealous about being the best, and simply put, he was. Don was an accomplished artist, art teacher, herbalist, acupuncturist, vegan chef, physical therapist, and most recently, dog trainer. He strove to excel at every task and devoted his life to treating and healing his patients. His belief in the Spirit and the power of positive thinking permeated all that he did. Don truly had the kindest soul in the “cosmos” and the “hands of God.” The world is a smaller place without his countenance.

He is survived by his sister Donna (Bob) Grosse, nephew Robert “Shane'' Grosse, great-nephew Trey (Marissa) Vaillant, Bobby Shea Grosse, and Robert “Bo” Grosse. In addition, survived by his “Milwaukee Family” including closest friends; Julie Berkopec, Bob and Marianne Berkopec Deb Larkey MD, Jack Harris, Basha, Lainie & Rachel Harris, Kerry Saver, Kimberly & Jadon Jaeger. He was preceded in death by his parents and niece Shawn Marie Vaillant. Don was a man with many “families” in Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Iowa and beyond. While too numerous to mention all the names, they include longtime friends, past patients, family of origin, colleagues, granddog Bailey and his sweet dog “Cooper.” Each of you had a special place in his huge heart. You know who you are. He will be sorely missed, may his name be a blessing.

“Celebration of Life” for Donald Ray Carlson will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 2022 at Northshore Funeral Services at 2:00 PM. Please join us to honor the life of this incredible human who changed each of our lives forever.
