(nee Weege) Passed away on August 25, 2021, age 90 years. Resident of the Milwaukee Catholic Home. Wife of Gilbert G. Walter. Mother of Natalia Walter, Pierre (Gadsaraporn) Walter and Mark (Rose Carroll) Walter. Grandmother of Michele, Mark, Nicholas (Natalie), Daniel (Erin) and Caitlin Walter. Great grandmother of Nova and Neil. Sister of Sandra Pritzlaff, James Weege and Patrick (Phyllis) Weege. Sister-in-law of Sue Weege and Mary Weege. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Edie grew up in a close-knit farming family in Ixonia, Wisconsin, among many loving brothers and sisters. At a time when few women went to college, she graduated from UW-Madison with a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. She then worked as an intern in Boston and a dietician in Milwaukee, where she met her husband, Gilbert. She returned to Madison with him, and worked there until her daughter and two sons were born. She later returned to live in Milwaukee, where she became a dedicated mother, homemaker and community volunteer.
Edie was a talented gardener, chef and baker, and a generous host. She welcomed friends, family and guests from around the world into her home. She was particularly well-known for her delectable elderberry, currant and wild grape jellies, raisin bread, and cherry and pumpkin pies. In the last years of her life, she struggled with Alzheimer's. She died peacefully with her loving husband Gilbert and son Mark at her side.
A Memorial Service celebrating Edie’s life is being planned, with time and date to be announced.
