Obituary

Died August 23, 2022. Age 98 years. Resident of St. John’s on the Lake. Husband of Barbara (nee Meyer). Father of Robert R. III (Colleen Malone) Elsner, Mary (Edward Kehm) Elsner, Katherine (Michael) Lilek, John (Jennifer Lab Elsner) Elsner, Margaret Howland, and 8 grandchildren.

He graduated from University School of Milwaukee and Brown University. He served in WWII in Europe with the 409th Infantry Regiment receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and the POW medal. He was a retired executive of Manpower, Inc. 

A consummate gentleman, Bob was known for his intellectual curiosity, quick wit, sense of humor and kind heart. Wildlife habitat restoration, love of the land, and ornithology were his passionate interests. He served on the board of Riveredge Nature Center and was the founder of Lakeside Community Council. He also had a keen interest in history, especially involving WWII.  

Memorial services will be held in the Chapel at St. John’s on the Lake on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Riveredge Nature Center or the charity of your choice.
